Bio Of The Band

In the Fall of 2007, four young men embarked on a musical quest. Tired of not being able to quench an almost unquenchable thirst for real music, the four neon knights decided to take matters into their own hands. Daniel Ribiero would take the helm as front man and lead vocalist. Evan Crocker would pierce the ears of listeners as rhythm and lead guitarist, while Charlie Bourque yielded the thunder as bass guitarist. Holding down the infectious grooves and raw backbone of the group's sound would be Steven Taylor as drummer and percussionist. Together they formed DYNAMA, which in Latin means "within power"(and indeed they were within power), hearing and playing the music that they themselves wanted to hear. Drawing from influences taken from traditional heavy metal and classic rock, the quartet came to be known as a groove metal or "power groove" band. They felt it sounded fitting considering their loud, aggressive, yet rhythmically mid-paced song structures. For about the next year and a half, they played locally at any bar, party or gig that would have them, surprising many audiences with their explosive performances and different approach to playing what many called "old school metal", mostly heard from bassist Charlie Bourque who would often play a riff by slapping and plucking the strings with his thumb and index finger rather then picking like most traditional metal bass players. One excited patron went so far as to say, "you guys are like Pantera, Black Sabbath and Primus rolled into one big hunk of funky groove metal”. Their reputation continued to expand throughout the South Florida scene. In early 2009, the group was given some sad news. Vocalist Dan Ribiero would be leaving the band for personal reasons. Not knowing if they should try to continue or disband, the three remaining members went on an indefinite hiatus. During this time, bassist Charlie took a vacation to Manchester, TN to attend the Bonnaroo Music Festival. There, he was introduced to 'jam bands', specifically Phish (considered to be the Grateful Dead of our era). When Charlie returned home, he brought back with him a deep affection and respect for all things 'Jam'! From this, the three musicians made a conscious decision to carry on and evolve...evolve to survive. Charlie would now hold dual roles as bass player AND lead vocalist. While still taking aspects from their original influences, Dynama incorporated the mentality of a 'jam band', utilizing improvisation as one of their main live performance tools. Along with extended, unrehearsed jams, soft mid-song break downs and roaring build-ups, they decided to give the new approach to their music a name no one had heard before: JAM METAL. If Black Sabbath, Gov't Mule and Primus had a lovechild, Dynama would be its name.
